I definitely think that Amongst Our Weapons was a better book than False Value. There was a lot of False Value that just didn't ... "click" for me. Which may possibly be a reflection of the fact that I'm not a fan of Lovecraftian-type Horror Of The Unknowable Squid-like Aliens. AOW, on the other hand, besides a more interesting plot to me, I loved all the worldbuilding and the history of magic bits and connecting back up with so many people we've met before, and the building of community. FV was about isolation and tearing down community and relationships. That's the other thing about it that didn't work for me very well.
